CranioSacral Therapy (CST) may be the treatment for you if you have tried other therapies with little or no results. CST is an excellent therapy for those seeking a non-invasive gentle approach for pain, dysfunction and over-all health and well-being.

A typical CST session consists of the therapist evaluating a patient's body for areas of tightness, contracture, and disturbances disrupting the flow of cerebrospinal fluid. The craniosacral system is composed of the membranes and fluids that surround, protect, and nourish the brain and spinal cord of the central nervous system. Every system of the body is dependent on the health and proper functioning of the nervous system so you can see how important this system is. By using a soft touch to a specific area the CST Practitioner is able to release tensions and restrictions allowing the body to self correct and come to a positon of ease.

Unlike many other therapies, CranioSacral Therapy is subtle and a patient may not perceive that changes are occuring during a treatment. These may be noticed at a later time or in a later session. Each person is different due to their life circumstances and history so the number of sessions needed may vary. Due to it's relaxing affect on the nervous system individuals often drift into a space somewhere between being awake and asleep as they process the traumas and injuries they have experienced. There may be times when a memory of a life event presents itself as the body releases the injury or trauma. CST may be used as part of a wellness program for it's ability to reduce stress, strengthen the immune system, and restore balance.

Some of the conditions that CranioSacral Therapy is used for are: Migraines and Headaches, Chronic Neck and Back Pain, Stress and Tension Related Disorders, Motor-Coordination Impairments, Infant and Childhood Disorders, Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries, Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia,TMJ Syndrome, Scoliosis, Central Nervous System Disorders, Learning Disabilities, ADD/ADHD,Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, as well as many other conditons.

Dr. John E Upledger D.O. discovered the existence of the craniosacral system and is the founder of the Upledger Institute in Florida. Additional information may be found on his web site.
