The Stress Reduction Program is designed for individuals who want to meet the stresses
and challenges of every day life but, lack the resources to be able to do so. These “stressors” may take the form
of an illness, job, family, finances, time restraints, all of which take their toll both physically and emotionally. Fatigue,
depression, irritability, the inability to relax or sleep, poor concentration, all are symptoms of “overload”.
Though we may not be able to control what is happening to us and around us, we can learn coping mechanisms to help us become
more centered and calm. In the seventies Jon Kabat-Zinn, a pioneer in mind-body medicine, created The Stress
Reduction Program in order to help people living with chronic conditions. He named this Program Mind-Based Stress Reduction
or MBSR. He found that through awareness comes the ability to notice what is happening in all aspects of life…..how
we think, how we feel, how we react and how we can get “unstuck”, and allow ourselves the possibility to change
and to open to our lives. It is the way of awareness of being present in our lives. A workbook, instructional materials, and four CD’s are included
to support what is learned in class. Each class is individualized for each participant. There is also discussion and a question
and answer period. This is a highly
participatory class and requires motivation and commitment for this life altering opportunity. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
is not meant to take the place of traditional medical and psychological treatments but to complement these approaches.
People participate for a variety of reasons
including Stress, Medical Conditions, Psychological distress, and for Prevention and Wellness. The following are examples
of “some” of the conditions that may benefit from attending The Program: Before the beginning of each eight week program there is a required orientation at no
cost to offer the opportunity to better understand the course and to see whether the program is right for you. Payment is
made at this time if you decide to participate. To sign up for the next orientation at The Center for Therapy and Stress Management email Kathy at info@center4therapy.com or call 727 738 9333 and we will call you back as soon as possible. Classes are offered for both groups and individuals.
